About the position

We are seeking a Sustainability Management & ESG Consultant for a specialized consulting firm who is comfortable working at the intersection of sustainability management, ESG, finance, and IT.

Sustainability management doesn't stop at strategy, policy, or reporting. To truly help organizations move forward, the underlying data, processes, and systems must also be properly structured. In this role, you'll combine substantive knowledge of sustainability and ESG with an understanding of the technological solutions needed to organize this in a structured way.

You’ll work closely with sustainability, finance, and IT teams to help organizations ultimately make sustainability information just as reliable, manageable, and verifiable as financial information.

What will you do?

• Advising sustainability teams, CFOs, and finance teams on the implementation of sustainability management and ESG reporting.
• Translating sustainability issues—such as SBTi, double materiality, value chain data, and CSRD—into a concrete approach for data, processes, and systems.
• Provide advice on ESG, sustainability management, and integrated reporting solutions, and collaborate with technical and functional specialists.
• Bridging the gap between substantive sustainability issues and application architecture.
• Helping organizations set up ESG reporting and sustainability management in a way that is repeatable, manageable, and auditable.
• Guiding clients from their initial vision and requirements to a fully functional solution.
• Actively sharing knowledge and contributing to the further development of services related to sustainability management, ESG, and integrated reporting.
• Identify opportunities with existing and new clients and contribute to the continued growth of this field.

The challenge

Sustainability management and ESG reporting are becoming increasingly intertwined with finance. At the same time, organizations are discovering that their existing processes and systems are not always designed to accommodate the level of detail, control, and auditability required by sustainability reporting.

That is precisely the challenge of this role. You don’t just look at what an organization needs to report, but above all at how to structurally organize sustainability management. What data is needed? Where does it come from? Who is responsible? What processes and controls are necessary? And what systems support this?

You therefore approach sustainability management and ESG reporting as a combination of content, processes, data, and technology.

What do you bring?

• At least 5 years of experience in (business) consulting, with a clear focus on sustainability management and/or ESG reporting.
• Strong substantive knowledge of relevant ESG legislation and reporting standards, including the CSRD, ESRS, and the EU Taxonomy.
• Familiarity with IT solutions for ESG, sustainability management, and integrated reporting.
• An understanding of how data, processes, and systems come together within an organization.
• The ability to translate complex sustainability issues into concrete and actionable solutions.
• A pragmatic and results-oriented consulting style.
• You can easily switch between substantive issues, stakeholders, and commercial opportunities.
• Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
• Willingness to work at client sites in the Netherlands and, on occasion, in Northwest Europe.

What can you expect?

• A total annual compensation package ranging from approximately €75,000 to €95,000, depending on knowledge and experience. This includes base salary, vacation pay, a commuting allowance, and a variable bonus.

You don’t need to be a technical implementation specialist yourself, but you understand enough about systems and data to ask the right questions and bridge the gap between sustainability, finance, IT, and specialized solution consultants.
